12-Step Guides
  Sample 12-Step Guides | Mail-Order Form

Leadem Counseling & Consulting Services, P.C. is staffed by a highly trained clinical team with proven expertise in treating the following problem areas: marriage and family counseling, drug and alcohol addiction counseling, co-dependency, gambling addiction, eating disorders, and sexual addiction.  Services are available in individual, group, and online counseling settings to address the needs of individuals seeking help in the areas of marriage and family counseling as well as child and adolescent counseling.   Our model for addressing addiction counseling is compatible with the tenants of all 12 Step programs.

The family therapy and marriage counseling we provide can not take the place of thorough 12 Step work in your respective fellowships. If your residential addiction treatment experience did not adequately prepare you for your step work or if you cannot find the individual support you need in the fellowship our guides might help.

About 12 Step Guides

Leadem Counseling & Consulting Services proudly announces the development of a series of guides to the completion of the 12 Steps.

The guides have been developed from the core of 12 Step recovery found in the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. They have been adapted for use by members of all 12 Step Groups regardless of the nature of the addictive behavior involved.
The guides are complied as follows:

Steps 1-3

Route # 123: The Road to Surrender Ends in Freedom (Under Development). The guide introduces step by step exercises for completing Steps 1-3 through a task oriented model. The task oriented model provides the user with a variety of strategies for completing each of the first three steps in a meaningful way that will set a firm foundation for completing the remainder of the nine steps.

Step 4

4th Step Feeling Guide Through A Personal Inventory (Available for Sale at Online Store or by calling (973-271-1277). See additional information and samples below.

Steps 6 & 7

The Forgotten Steps: A Guide Through The Completion of Steps 6 & 7 (Under Development)
The guide introduces step by step exercises for completing Steps 6 & 7 through a task oriented model. The task oriented model provides the user with a variety of strategies for completing the 6th and 7th Steps in a meaningful way. The strategies presented will help the user to develop a clear understanding of his defects of character and methods for changing the behavior associated with them. Once the behaviors changes have been developed into a plan for change the defects will be ready to present to God for his removal. The user will also have the opportunity to develop the foundations for the changes that will be proposed to those he would make amends to in the 9th Step. The 6th and 7th Steps were once known as the "forgotten steps" and there is little confusion about how they earned that label. Any one who has found themselves asking, "… yes, but why do I keep doing the same things over and over again?" has probably misplaced or overlooked these two vital steps. It is true that the 1st Step is the only one that has to be done with 100% perfection, however, those who are in the habit of conducting regular inventories know that many of the problems which get inventoried repeatedly have their roots in resistant defects of character.

Steps 8 & 9

Straightening Out the Past: A Task Oriented Guide Through The Completion of Steps 8 & 9 (Under Development)

Steps 10-12

A Spiritual Parachute: A Task Oriented Guide Through The Completion of Steps 10-12.

Sample Component Checklist for Resentments

This guide is intended to provide you with emotional and spiritual support as you progress through the completion of your 4th Step. The format used is appropriate for individuals in all 12-Step fellowships. The introductory sections of the guide will provide the user who is undertaking his/her first 4th step with a solid base for understanding the purpose of completing such an inventory and how to overcome the common obstacles which can make it a difficult step to complete. Individuals who are undertaking a focus inventory on relationships or on a specific problem area will find the recommended tasks helpful in identifying the personality changes they will need to undertake to improve the quality of their intimate relationships. The guide is helpful for those who report difficulty with the task writing about the past

The "Feeling Guide Through A Personal Inventory" is an in-depth journey through the four components highlighted in Alcoholics Anonymous* in the text’s discussion of the 4th Step process. It is reprinted with WSO permission below for your reference.

If we have been thorough about our personal inventory, we have written down a lot. We have listed and analyzed our resentments. We have begun to comprehend their futility and their fatality. We have commenced to see their terrible destructiveness. We have begun to learn tolerance, patience and good will toward all men, even our enemies, for we look on them as sick people. We have listed the people we have hurt by our conduct, and are willing to straighten out the past if we can.

The guide is formatted into the following sections:

Section 1 Purpose for Conducting a Searching and Fearless Moral Inventory
Examines the emotional and spiritual rationale for undertaking a moral inventory.

Section 2 - Obstacles To Beginning & Completing Your Inventory
Identified the social and emotional obstacles typically encountered and how to over come them so you do not become stuck.

Section 3 · An Overview of the Format for Using the Guide
Introduces the use of three keys tools for improving introspection.

Section 4 · The Components
The process for completing each of the four components are review in explicit detail.
