Shawn Leadem, MSW, CSAT Candidate
Shawn is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in both Virginia and New Jersey with a Master’s degree in Social Work from Radford University. His career development has provided him with the opportunity to provide clinical care in a variety of mental health settings ranging from intensive outpatient programs for the treatment of addictive disorders to hospital-based psychiatric services. Shawn’s wide range of experience and the depth of exposure to the challenges of human suffering have greatly enhanced his professional resourcefulness.
His lifelong exposure to the “recovery culture” has left him with a deep personal empathy for the social and emotional suffering endured by others and a strong faith in a person’s ability to change. His fundamental belief in the fulfillment that can come from a healthy marriage has led him to promote a “shared program of recovery.”
Helen McIntosh, LPC, LCADC, CCS, CSW, NCC
Helen is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor, a Certified Clinical Supervisor and a Certified Social Worker in New Jersey and a National Certified Counselor. Helen earned a Masters Degree in Clinical Counseling with a specialization in Addictions Counseling from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Helen has worked with a diverse population over the last 37 years including the Developmentally Disabled, Emotionally Disturbed youth, Battered Women, Mentally Ill, Chemically Addicted, and for the past 10 years in the Addictions field working with Individuals, Couples and Families in Group, Individual and Family Counseling formats. Helen is a member of the Legislative Sub-Committee of the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse in New Jersey. Helen has worked in her local community to educate schools, church congregations and volunteer groups about the problems of Addiction and Substance Abuse. Helen shares our philosophy of a strong family format where each member shares both the responsibility as a contributing member and the benefits of a functioning family system.
Helen has had a rich and challenging personal life and has met her life’s challenges with grace, humility and a determination to use her life’s experiences to benefit her work and the lives of her clients. Helen is an Adult Survivor of Childhood Sexual Abuse and Alcoholism in her family of origin. She has dealt with her own issues including Anxiety and Panic Disorder, Alcoholism, Drug Abuse and Co-Dependency. Helen recently celebrated 19 years of continuous Sobriety and she believes that personal challenges are a means to personal growth and that everyone is capable of great change and great joy if they are willing to show up and do the work “one day at a time.”
