The Sexual Addiction Screening Test (SAST-2) developed by Dr. Patrick Carnes, author of Out of the Shadows and Facing the Shadows, is a self assessment tool that can help evaluate the likelihood that a person is suffering with a sexual addiction. This tool was made available to this site from Dr. Patrick Carnes and can also be found on his website at www.recoveryzone.com.
The tool is in a .pdf format and when you click on the link below you will be able to view the file. In order to score your results please read the explanation that follows.
Scoring:
- If you answered “yes” 7 or more times in questions 1-20 then you fit the profile of many individuals who have taken this assessment and are sexually addicted.
- Questions 21-45 help to further clarify the way in which your sexual problem manifests itself. If you scored 7 or higher for the first 20 questions and are interested in better understanding what the results of the remaining questions mean please call us at 732-797-1444 or email us at corporate@leademcounseling.com.

Has the SAST R been put in the public domain?
Hi Gerri, and thank you for your question. Dr. Carnes and IITAP have graciously allowed us at LCCS to offer the SAST to users directly through our website. You can contact IITAP for more information about the SAST at http://www.iitap.com/contact
Can the SAST-r be used for adolescents? If not is there a testing instrument out there for adolescents with sexual addictions?
Hi Krista, thank you for your question about using the SAST with an adolescent population. According to Clinical Handbook of Adolescent Addiction (2013) the SAST was not designed for this population and therefore its usefulness with adolescents is unknown (page 372). There is a complete chapter in the handbook dedicated to sexual addiction and hypersexual behaviors in adolescents.
(I have confirmed the accuracy of the above information with the International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Professionals (iitap), the creators of the SAST-R.)
.
Very Good .. Thanks
