He has over 50 years of professional experience in the treatment of substance and process addictions as well as the treatment of trauma in individuals and families.  John’s professional service to recovering addicts and their families has included the development and operation of numerous addiction treatment facilities whose therapeutic adherence to 12 Step philosophies, coupled with state-of-the-art medical care, set them well above their competition.  His talents for clinical program design, development, and implementation have been solicited by private and public organizations seeking to develop leading edge programs for the treatment of substance and process addictions.

John’s professional service to addicted individuals and their families has included the development and direction of addiction treatment services in a full array of modalities from half-way houses to large residential treatment facilities over the past 55 years.  John is actively engaged in the efforts of LCCS to bring continuing education to other professionals through the development of professional treatment guides and courses, such as A Shared Program of Recovery: A therapist guide to treating couples recovering from addiction (Leadem & Leadem, LCCS, 2012), and presentations at national professional conferences.  He has presented workshops at New Jersey Alcoholism Counselors Association Annual Convention and the National Association of Drug and Alcohol Counselors Association Annual Convention, and has been co-presenter at conferences sponsored by the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health, the International Institute for Trauma & Addiction Professionals. This fall, he will present at the national conference sponsored by the Commission on Lawyers Assistance Programs.

John has recently celebrated his 51st year in recovery and believes that “service to others is the cornerstone of spiritual maturity.”

Professional/Customer reviews

Although I haven’t been able to see John for some time due to distance of travel, I learned so many useful relationship tools from him during my year in therapy. I have nothing but admiration for him and Elaine. May God bless them with good health and much happiness.
