Over my years of recovery, I have heard many stories of relapsing into old patterns of coping with our hurts, habits, and hang ups that happen in life.  An Ounce of Prevention: A Course in Relapse Prevention is a valuable aide to look at relapse as a process that can be prevented.  During my training as a Certified Relapse Prevention Navigator, I explored areas of my own life that still need to be refined.  Exploring situations and events that have occurred and might occur can help prepare one for the challenges of life.  I have used this course both in individual and group settings and it is very effective.  I encourage others to explore this course.

Being a person in long-term recovery, I have found that the culture of the recovery community ‘expects’ and ‘accepts’ relapse as a part of the recovery process.  Although we don’t shame a person if relapse does occurs, our staff explains to the newly sober person that it  doesn’t ‘need’ to be a part of the path to recovery.  The Leadem’s have developed a course book that can be used between a sponsor and sponsee, a counselor and client or in a group processing setting.  The coursework focuses on symptoms, character flaws and shortcomings that plague each and every one of us.  An Ounce of Prevention: A Course in Relapse Prevention provides a simple yet detailed path an end user can follow to complete a highly personalized relapse prevention plan so that he or she can “see the relapse coming” and remain abstinent.  I strongly recommend this in-depth study as a foundational piece to the program of recovery.
